Matter was introduced a while ago and there’s honestly…not that much out there for it. What I can say, is that the stuff I’ve used has honestly been great. The Thread connections are much more solid than the single Wi-Fi device I have, which also isn’t Matter. While the compatibility between different smart home ecosystems isn’t that important, I find that it’s just easier to find Matter over Thread devices.

What’s the Matter with It?

This isn’t as structured as most of my other blog posts, I really am not sure where all the Matter hate comes from. I know a lot of it comes from people with a ton of different devices, and there’s not a lot of support for different types of devices, which I get. The thing is that I don’t really think that’s all that important at this point. The idea with Matter is to make starting a smart home easier. If you can nail the basics like lightbulbs, then you’re going to get a lot of people covered.

Matter is Coming Along

While it doesn’t support everything yet, more devices are coming and, as those devices come out, it’s going to allow the whole smart home ecosystem to work rather well. Thread routers are getting better, Apple now even lets you choose the home controller manually. It’s not that bad these days.

Closing Thoughts
